The crypto cluster
Part G and Part H described the development of Crypto Valley and its regulatory framework. For the coming decade, the canton can support the cluster by maintaining a pragmatic administration for crypto companies, by supporting the reform of federal law in a direction that combines clarity and proportionality and by promoting the cooperation between the crypto industry and the traditional financial sector. The cluster's future depends on its transformation from a centre of token projects and foundations into a centre of regulated digital asset infrastructure and services. The canton can facilitate this transformation but cannot direct it.
The competition from other hubs, including Liechtenstein, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Hong Kong and, increasingly, the United States, will intensify. Zug's advantages are its early start, its concentration of expertise, the reputation of Swiss law and institutions and its quality of life. Its disadvantages are the absence of access to the European market, the high costs of living and working in the canton and the restrictions on recruiting from outside Europe. The balance of these factors will determine whether Crypto Valley remains the leading European crypto hub in 2035.
