The canton's strengths for the decade ahead

Read the PDF edition (1 page)

The analysis of this book suggests that Zug enters the decade to 2035 with considerable strengths. Its public finances are among the strongest of any region in Europe, with large surpluses and reserves. Its economy is more diversified than at any time in its history, with commodity traders, multinational headquarters, life sciences, technology companies, wealth managers and a crypto cluster. Its administration is efficient and responsive, while its political culture favours pragmatic solutions. Its location in the heart of Europe, close to Zurich and its airport, remains attractive to international companies and their employees, as does its quality of life.

The canton also has an unusual asset: experience of change. Within seventy years, it has transformed itself from an agricultural and industrial canton into a global business hub, adapted to the end of its tax privileges, absorbed the loss of its Russian business and built a new industry in crypto-assets and Digital Assets. Each of these transformations required its authorities, companies and residents to adapt. Although the experience does not guarantee success in the next decade, it gives the canton a capacity for adaptation that few other locations possess.
