Checklist: assessing an anti-corruption compliance programme

  • Verify the existence of a code of conduct circulated to all employees and of a documented assessment of corruption risks.
  • Examine the due diligence procedures for agents, intermediaries and partners, including the justification of remuneration and the approval of high-risk relationships.
  • Check the mechanisms for monitoring payments and detecting unusual flows.
  • Ensure that exposed employees receive regular training and have access to a protected whistleblowing channel.
  • Verify that internal audit checks the application of the programme and that its findings are acted upon.
  • Assess the independence and authority of the compliance function, together with the involvement of senior management and the board.
  • Examine the history of incidents, the way they were handled and the remediation measures adopted.
